What is the Program?
Early Head Start is a free program that helps families with children under the age of three reach developmental milestones by providing a healthy and stimulating environment.
Parents can turn to the program for:
- Enriched child care (birth – three years old)
- Home visits
- Medical and dental care referrals
- Developmental screenings
- Activities to promote healthy parenting
- Activities to promote good mental and physical growth for the child
- Child development information
- Prenatal support and doula services
The program combines home visits, center-based services and assistance for pregnant women to help you and your child thrive through the very important early developmental years.
Who can Participate?
Pregnant women and children, birth to three years, whose families receive SSI or DHS cash grants and/or DHS child care reimbursement, or meet income guidelines. Children with disabilities and foster children are also eligible.

Home visits for families throughout western Wayne County. Home visits are scheduled Monday-Friday. Times are based on availability of the family and the home visitor.
Center-based services are available Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
