Family Success ProgramSM

What is the program?
The Family Success Program is designed to stabilize the lives of low-income families, which will then allow them to pursue their individual goals for a sustainable future.

The Family Success Program:
  • Focuses on Southeastern Michigan communities where poverty is prevalent
  • Works with each family’s assets and needs to change its current situation into one of independence and success
  • Partners a Starfish staff member, called a Family Advocate, with each family to help them achieve sustainable success
  • Focuses on measuring progress for families over a three-year period
Families work toward measurable goals in these areas:
  • Affordable housing
  • Employment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Child care
  • Job training
  • Education
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Healthcare
  • Family and friend time
  • Savings, retirement and debt reduction
  • Life purpose and beliefs
Who can participate?
Enrolled families must have:
  • The desire and will to change their life for the better
  • At least one child under age five
  • No active substance or domestic abuse
  • The ability to attend regular meetings and family events at Starfish
Where and when does the program take place?
The program takes place at Starfish Family Services in Inkster and in the family’s own home. Families are working to create a lasting change that takes place over a two-year period.
