INKSTER, Mich., May 12, 2011 — Inkster, Mich.-based Starfish Family Services (Starfish), a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating brighter futures for the children of at-risk families in metropolitan Detroit, celebrated the ribbon cutting of its updated lobby space. Starfish Chief Executive Officer Ann Kalass made the announcement.
The event was held on May 5, 2011 at 5 p.m. at 30000 Hiveley Road in Inkster, Mich. and featured refreshments and tours of Starfish. In attendance was Starfish CEO Ann Kalass, AIREA/Kimball executives, past and present Starfish board members, and more than 50 Starfish friends and supporters.
“We’re so thankful to AIREA/Kimball for this wonderful opportunity,” said Kalass. “Our new lobby is fun, bright and inviting, and now accurately reflects our organization’s commitment to the children and families we serve. Our youngest clients, children under five, love the play area the most.”
Updates to the lobby space included a state-of-the-art reception center, updated seating and tables including a small table and chair set for toddlers, new carpeting, Starfish logo decals on the windows, all-weather floor covering at the entrance, and a colorful paint job. Guests who remembered the last lobby update more than ten years ago were very impressed by the difference.
Starfish was announced as the winner of the online AIREA/Kimball® Extreme Office Makeover Contest in May of 2010. The office space makeover contest was co-sponsored by AIREA, a leading furnishing and design dealer in Farmington Hills, Mich., and Kimball® Office, a business unit of Kimball® International. AIREA consultants committed to updating the lobby and main hallway at Starfish to improve both the functionality and aesthetics of the facility.
The winner was determined through online voting, which was open to the public. Starfish was announced as the office makeover recipient on May 6th at the AIREA Showroom during an afternoon reception for industry leaders and community members.
